Roscommon County to solicit bids for Lake Manager as board weighs governance options

Commissioners Rex Wolfsen and Darlene Sensor said on May 13 they will advertise the Roscommon County Lake Manager position for bids. The board reviewed candidate criteria and said that, depending on responses, it may discuss the position with the incoming Drain Commissioner to determine interest in assuming the role.
Separately, Commissioner Kim Morley outlined governance options for the county's control structures: give responsibility back to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, sell the structures, create a Water Resources Department within county government, or continue under county control. Chair Sensor also read an email from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy about flood-plain elevation data and noted a prior Drain Commissioner signed an agreement to change the department name; Commissioner Wolfsen added that all gates were open in January. The board recorded these options for future consideration but took no final action at the special meeting.
