Director outlines education programs, grant activity and winter operations at Nature Center

Director Adam Sears provided a comprehensive Director’s Report covering staff schedules, grant coordination and visitor programming. He said staff observed Martin Luther King Day, attended the Winterfest conference on Jan. 28–29, and that he attended an Iowa DOT Transportation Alternatives Program meeting to discuss grant cycles and a regional SRRWMC meeting to coordinate projects.
Sears highlighted conservation education activity by Naturalist Heidi Reams in county schools, said bird-feeder kits remain for sale at the Nature Center entrance, and stated, “We will be introducing two hydroponic systems in the Nature Center this year to give visitors an example of how we grow plants all year long.” He also reported that snow has been moved several times this winter to ensure cabins and the Fossil and Prairie Park remain open and that cross-country skiing and snowshoeing remain program priorities if snow is available.
