Council elects Evan Porterfield as mayor pro tem

Hutto City Council elected Evan Porterfield as mayor pro tem during its July 2 meeting after nominations and an oral roll-call vote. Nominations were made for King and Porterfield; Porterfield received the necessary votes and the council then moved and seconded the formal appointment.
The mayor explained the choice as a function of seniority and continuity: "...that's the only reason I took Porterfield...He's just the next, seniority," the mayor said during discussion. The formal motion to appoint Porterfield and the subsequent vote passed 7–0. Porterfield will serve as the presiding officer when the mayor cannot attend or represent the city.
