Council adds recreation-center feasibility study to CIP year 5

Hutto city leaders voted to add a feasibility study for a consolidated recreation center to year 5 (2030-31) of the citys five-year Capital Improvement Plan. The motion, introduced during joint discussion of parks and facility lines, programs a study rather than construction and directed staff to return cost estimates when available.
Council members and parks staff debated whether a single multi-use complex should include a library, community center, aquatics and parks headquarters. "We do share equipment," Jeff Wilde, director of parks and recreation, said when the council asked whether parks and public works could consolidate equipment and services. Council member (voice 1) moved to add the recreation-center study and discussed a placeholder figure in the neighborhood of $200,000 for planning. Staff clarified the line would be recorded as a study rather than a construction appropriation.
The council chair said the intent is to keep facilities on the CIP list so the city can track long-term needs even when financing is uncertain. The council took a roll-call vote during the session; the committee recorded support for adding the study into year 5 and asked staff to produce a refined estimate for the formal July council agenda.
