The Board of County Commissioners of Kay County convened March 9 in Newkirk and approved a series of routine but consequential administrative items, including contracts for road projects, equipment purchases and multiple fund appropriations. Chairman Jeff Kreger and his fellow commissioners voted unanimously on the recorded motions.
Among the actions, the board approved a Notice of Award for the Peckham Road Overlay Project (Bid No. 2026-7) for District 2 and a Notice to Proceed with Ellsworth Construction on the Enterprise Road Overlay (Bid#2025-33) for District 1. The meeting record shows the board also authorized a purchase of a Pro Thermal Camera and truck charger for the Ponca City Fire Department for $8,975.00 and approved numerous cash fund estimates and appropriations across highway, district, and special funds.
Commissioner Jason Shanks introduced and the board adopted Resolution No. 25, 26-103 opposing establishment of a One-State Workforce Development Board; Shanks told the board the proposal would reduce rural representation and responsiveness in workforce decision-making. District Attorney Brian Hermanson approved the resolution "as to form," per the record. The meeting adjourned at 9:46 a.m.
