CSB reports revised school‑based mental health plan covering four schools; clinicians assigned at two high schools

Carol McDaid called the March 9 meeting of the Hanover County Community Services Board Legislative Advocacy Committee to order and asked staff for an update on the school‑based mental health (SBMH) program. Dr. Gabriella Caldwell‑Miller said staff met with school leadership and that the schools welcomed CSB services; under the revised design the program will cover four schools and will assign clinicians to Patrick Henry and Mechanicsville high schools. "Staff are working to have an initial plan for the revised program by March 27," Caldwell‑Miller said.

Caldwell‑Miller said the program will emphasize tier‑3 services — one‑on‑one brief therapy for specifically identified students — while tiers 1 and 2 supports will be offered as staff time and capacity allow. She described work on a rubric to guide referrals and access to services and said staff will track quantitative and qualitative measures to support future impact study consideration. Mary Butler Eggleston recommended that oversight and ongoing engagement for SBMH move to the Community Engagement Committee to maintain focus on program implementation rather than legislative advocacy; Caldwell‑Miller agreed to share the planning materials with the committee.
