Council approves resolution to pool Huachuca City’s opioid-settlement funds with Cochise County
Summary
The council adopted Resolution 2026-01 to join an intergovernmental agreement pooling local opioid-settlement funds in a county-managed account and an advisory board; the town’s projected share is about $28,000 and the pooled county account totals roughly $3,000,000.
Town Manager Suzanne Harvey told the council the town previously agreed in principle to pool its opioid-settlement allocation with Cochise County because the town’s individual allotment is small and the county’s administration and program rules are burdensome for a small staff.
Harvey said the county now has an IGA ready; the pooled account for all participating jurisdictions currently holds about $3,000,000 and Huachuca City’s anticipated share is approximately $28,000. The IGA establishes an advisory board; Harvey said she would serve to represent the town’s interests.
Councilmember Johann Wallace moved to adopt Resolution 2026-01 approving the IGA; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Harvey said she hopes pooled funds will support projects to mitigate the opioid crisis countywide, and that the advisory board will solicit proposals from cities and towns.
