Town Attorney Thomas Benavidez advised the council that the general election on Nov. 3, 2026 will include three council seats (incumbents Butterworth, Trate and Thompson) and the mayoral office (incumbent Wallace). He said the offices are nonpartisan and that the town does not hold a primary for these seats.
Benavidez told the council that voter registration closes Oct. 5, 2026 at midnight (citing ARS §16‑120 and §16‑134) and that early voting begins under ARS §16‑542(C). He also explained that if an incumbent’s term does not expire this year the incumbent must resign before running for an available office; incumbents whose terms expire this year may run without resigning. The mayor asked that advertising begin now.
No nominations, filings, or candidate names beyond the incumbents named in the minutes were recorded at the meeting; the attorney’s briefing was informational and no formal council action was taken other than discussion.
