Highway Director Clint Maddox presented a quote from Collum Excavating of $296,435 to make the Oakalla covered bridge structurally sound. Commissioners approved the quote and authorized payment from the cumulative bridge fund pending County Council approval.
Maddox also said the Huffman covered bridge needs lean correction and additional structural work (costs not yet specified), Community Crossings road work could begin this month depending on weather, dust-control options were reviewed (including Great Lakes Chloride at $471 per 300 feet), and demolition of the county fuel station will start soon with only diesel remaining on site. Maddox said the department will start a four-day summer schedule on May 11, though Commissioner Beck expressed a preference for five-day operations.
