Council directs staff to explore foreclosure on abatement liens for three properties

Mayor Johann R. Wallace told the council he was concerned the Town had repeatedly paid to remediate hazardous conditions on properties without recovering costs. After Town Attorney Thomas Benavidez explained the foreclosure process can be complex and costly, and noted the Town has already invested approximately $16,000 on 217 Pima Street, the council voted unanimously to direct staff to explore foreclosure on the Town's abatement liens for 217 Pima St., 303 Apache St., and 103 Tomahawk.
"It is a complicated process and that it will cost money to proceed. He also advises that the Town has already put $16,000.00 into 217 Pima over the years," the minutes record Benavidez as saying. The motion to explore foreclosure was moved by Johann Wallace and seconded by Cynthia Butterworth and passed unanimously; staff will report back with legal and cost analyses before any further action.
