On Jan. 22 the Huachuca City Council conducted first readings of four ordinances intended to align town code with state law. The ordinances presented were: Ordinance 2026-01 (repeal of a fee for criminal background checks before transfer of a firearm to align with A.R.S. 13-3108(A)); Ordinance 2026-02 (amend exceptions under which minors may lawfully possess firearms to align with A.R.S. 13-3108(G)(2)(d)); Ordinance 2026-03 (remove prohibition on firearms-related home-based businesses per state law); and Ordinance 2026-04 (updates to animal code, removing references to a town animal shelter the town no longer operates and other changes to licensing and impoundment provisions). Mayor Johann Wallace performed the first readings.
