TCEDC director outlines job fair, housing study and grant work

Murphy said 20 exhibitors are lined up for the Job Fair & Career Expo scheduled the day after the meeting at Mayville State. He also described recent outreach "with the county sheriff & Herberg Dairy" on growth planning and that TCEDC staff have handled "quite a bit of activity in commercial real estate — both land and existing buildings." The director said he has engaged the tax commissioner about a possible state sales-tax reimbursement for a local business and has been working with the ND Ag Department on value-added agricultural infrastructure grants for the Traill County Water Resource District.
Murphy summarized housing efforts and partnerships, noting home-building purchase agreements signed in Hillsboro and coordination with Lake Agassiz Development Group. "I think we'll see some movement on housing — even if we're building things one home at a time," Murphy said. He also described work on an RFP for the Commerce department and assistance to local groups, including The Pasture in Cummings on a $15,000 grant.
The report included administrative items such as continuing an inventory of available real estate across cities, a planned permanent historical exhibit installation with the Traill County Historical Society, and ongoing ADA compliance work for the TCEDC website. The commission had no immediate policy votes tied to the director's report; members asked clarifying questions during the presentation.
