At a public hearing on the county budget, the Putnam County board voted to set the maximum general property tax millage at 8.7418 mills and to propose a fire millage of 1.400 mills, a change from the current 1.1 mills.
Deputy Administrator Young presented the two items the board needed to pass in July, saying, "As, advised, the max millage rate for the general fund is proposed at the same as our current rate of 8.7418," and that the "fire proposed max millage rate [is] of 1.4 mills, which is an increase from the current rate of 1.1 mills." Young also read the scheduled dates and locations for the hearings: the tentative hearing is set for Tuesday, 09/08/2026 at 5:05 p.m. in the VOCC Chambers, and the final hearing and adoption is set for Tuesday, 09/22/2026 at 5:05 p.m. in the VOCC Chambers.
Committee member [name not specified] moved to set the maximum millage rates and was seconded; the board chair called for the vote and recorded aye votes and the motion carried. The board likewise approved the motion to set the dates, times and locations for the tentative and final hearings and formally placed those hearings on the calendar.
