Resident urges stronger enforcement after burnouts at Stanwood car show

Tim Swindon told the Stanwood City Council on July 9 that organizers and city officials should prevent a repeat of burnouts and other dangerous driving that marred streets during this year’s Twin City Islanders car show.
“This sort of behavior would not be tolerated,” Swindon said, urging the council to place the concern in the city’s institutional memory and to ask the Twin City Islanders’ leadership to warn participants and work with police. He noted a similar problem six years earlier and said an increased police presence the following year had reduced the issue.
Swindon asked the council to flag the festival application when it arrives in about nine months so staff and councilors can require appropriate conditions — such as organizer outreach and an enhanced police presence — to protect city property and public safety. The mayor acknowledged the concern and asked staff to note the request.
