The Stanwood City Council authorized the mayor to sign a contract with Reaper Construction to add a crosswalk, push buttons and curb ramps at the SR 532 and 72nd Avenue NW intersection near the high school.
Public works staff engineer Alan Litt told the council that staff opened bids and received two offers; “the low being Reaper Construction at $178,400,” he said, and added that the city had $150,000 budgeted for the project. Litt said the $28,400 difference would come from street capital funds. Staff explained the project scope is intentionally limited—striping, ramps, pushbuttons and minor drainage work—and that most work can be done outside the travel lanes, with at most a one‑night closure for sidewalk work.
Council members asked about lighting, sign clutter and traffic control. Litt said the city submitted traffic‑control plans to the state and offered night‑work and off‑shoulder options; he described the project as straightforward and brief. A motion to authorize the mayor to sign the contract passed by voice vote.
