"There was the enactment of revised statute 15 2 55 double a, and that provides for the transfer of certain surplus monies from the law enforcement witness fee fund to the criminal court fund effective 08/01/2026," Annie said. Under the amendment the parish will transfer $581,424.51 to help cover salaries and benefits for the 22nd Judicial District Court. Annie characterized most of the amount (about $577,000) as prior‑year fund balance built up over 20–30 years and described the transfer as a one‑time resource; going forward the annual excess is likely to be only a few thousand dollars.
Council discussion acknowledged the transfer provides temporary relief for criminal court staffing costs but is not a recurring revenue source.
