County Manager Thomas Weaver told the commission the sheriff located funding to obtain radios with no upfront cost to the county, leaving the county responsible only for monthly service fees. Weaver said the original radio cost had been about $78,000; the proposed monthly service was cited at roughly $300 per month and would begin in the next fiscal year.
Chairman Coffey praised the sheriff for finding funding. Weaver said staff will add the service agreement to a future agenda for formal board action and that the county has a window (30–60 days) to accept the proposed arrangement with the vendor.
