Council approves $35,000 for Main Street Mexico’s downtown revitalization

The Mexico City Council on July 27 approved Bill 202644, a resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into an agreement with Main Street Mexico, Inc., and to appropriate $35,000 to support the nonprofit’s 2025–2026 downtown revitalization program.
Gigi McAbray, who the council identified as the city’s economic development director, described Main Street Mexico as a community-based nonprofit that relies on grants, fundraisers and volunteers. “They’ve planted over 30 trees,” McAbray said, noting the group has installed light-pole banners, helped obtain a train mural through the Missouri Arts Council and hosted several downtown events.
Staff recommended reading the bill by title only and moving to passage; the council moved for a second reading and voted to pass the resolution. The appropriation is intended to support ongoing economic development and downtown revitalization work coordinated with Main Street Mexico.
