Board authorizes OCJS JAG grant, advances plan for county forensic digital crime lab

The Board of County Commissioners of Clermont County on Aug. 27 authorized the President to sign Pre-Award Conditions Acknowledgment forms for the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (State Grant Number 2022-JG-A03-V6759). The award totals $149,431.30, 100% funded by OCJS with no local match, for the period 07/31/2025 to 06/30/2026 and is designated for digital forensic and crime-intelligence software, related equipment and salary reimbursement.
Kenneth Mullis presented a proposal to place a Forensic Digital Crime Lab under the jurisdiction of the Clermont County Sheriff's Office. Prosecutor Mark Tekulve thanked the Board for its support of the proposal, and Coroner Dr. Brian Treon said forensic technology would be an excellent asset. Sheriff Stratton discussed his support and welcomed adding the lab to the Sheriff's Office.
Commissioners voted unanimously to add the grant acknowledgment to the agenda and to authorize signature for the pre-award conditions. The Board recorded the motion and roll-call vote approving the action.
