Stanwood — The City Council unanimously approved a personnel reclassification on May 28, converting an existing senior planner position to a planning manager role and adding it to the non-represented salary schedule.
Staff said the planning manager role will expand management-level responsibilities including direct supervision of assigned staff, coordination of consultant work, and serving as acting community development director in the director's absence. “This request does not add a new FTE. It reclassifies an existing budgeted position to a planning manager and includes it on the non-represented salary schedule at an approximate 10% increase over the existing senior planner salary range,” staff said.
Council members asked clarifying questions about recruitment and supervisory experience; staff said the position is intended to strengthen succession planning and operational coordination within the community development department. The council moved and approved Resolution 2026-09 to adopt the reclassification and updated job description.
Next steps: staff will post/recruit for the reclassified position under the updated job description and salary range.
