Resident thanks council for steps toward school zone at 72nd and State Route 532

During the public-comment period, Casey Wood thanked the mayor, council and city staff for taking steps to improve safety at the intersection of 72nd and State Route 532. "While it's not necessarily the ultimate solution, it is a step that can be taken relatively quickly to help prevent somebody from really being injured there," Wood said.
Wood said a small group of citizens met with city staff and learned that provisions in the RCWs can allow a school zone on a state highway, and he expressed appreciation for staff efforts to pursue that option. The commenter emphasized the intersection is heavily used by students and other members of the community.
Mayor acknowledged the comment and noted the issue will continue to be part of staff reports and future discussions.
