Chittenden Solid Waste District names Brendan Atwood as director of public policy communications and waste diversion

The Chittenden Solid Waste District board on July 29 introduced Brendan Atwood as the district’s new director of public policy communications and waste diversion. Atwood, who began work roughly three and a half weeks ago according to remarks in the meeting, told commissioners he is “delighted and excited to be here” and intends to contribute to the district’s ongoing work on waste diversion and extended producer responsibility (EPR).
Atwood summarized a career focused at the intersection of public policy, environmental policy and public health, saying he worked on transportation demand management and municipal policy for an organization based in Winooski, served six years at the Vermont Department of Health as a policy adviser and then policy director, and most recently led policy at the Vermont Agency of Human Services. He told the board those roles involved interagency work, legislative engagement, and development of regulations and rulemaking portfolios that he said relate to CSWD’s responsibilities.
Board members welcomed Atwood and said they look forward to his participation in future meetings and contributions to policy work. The chair noted commissioners would help bring Atwood up to speed and invited him to contribute during the current and upcoming board sessions.
