Lake Hallie police report: K-9 Kita retires; department to sell Kita to sergeant

Police Chief Orgon updated the Village Board on department staffing, K-9 activity, and animal-control operations.
Chief Orgon reported that K-9 Kita retired from active service; Kita began duty in December 2014 and was credited with 375 narcotics finds, 15 tracks, seizure of $37,000 in U.S. currency, one vehicle seizure and eight illegal firearms over her career. The chief also gave the 2024 animal-control figures: the department responded to 154 total animal complaints and transported 34 animals to the Eau Claire Humane Association. The department spent $4,102 on animal-control operations in 2024 (budget $4,000) and recorded $1,548 in tire expenses for squad vehicles in 2025.
The board approved Resolution 2025-04 to sell retired K-9 Kita to Sergeant Daniel Sokup (motion by Mr. Berg, seconded by Mr. Greenwood; carried unanimously). Chief Orgon also reported a staffing change: Harper Dilley is scheduled to begin Feb. 10, 2025 as part-time police clerk, replacing Kelcie Kluck. These personnel and equipment items were presented as informational updates and approved sales/appointments were recorded in the meeting minutes.
