Policy Team reviews AIS staffing, treatment grants and a $75,000 phragmites request

Chisago County Water Resource Manager Madelyn Kinny updated the Team on the county's Aquatic Invasive Species programs and grant activity. She reported that the AIS Specialist/Lead Watercraft Inspector position recently closed and that Level 1 and Level 2 Watercraft Inspector positions are open for application.
Kinny also described a DNR Conservation Partners Legacy grant proposal requesting $75,000 over a three-year period to treat invasive phragmites on lakes within the Chisago Lakes Lake Improvement District. "$75,000 is being requested over a three-year treatment period," Kinny said. She added that AIS treatment and education grant applications have closed with one lake association declining to apply this year; the applications will be presented to the County Board on March 18.
The staffing update indicates a transition period for inspection coverage; grant decisions and any treatment schedules will follow County Board consideration and grant award decisions. The Team heard these updates as part of routine program oversight and outreach planning.
