Council begins talks on leasing town land for sauna business; Powder Mountain partnership discussed

Prospective operators Kaitlin Poulter and Grant Stanley presented the concept of an outdoor sauna to the Council and walked staff and councilmembers around possible sites behind Town Hall. Councilmembers noted advantages of a location near parking and utilities but flagged existing plans for a fire-access road that could affect siting. The Council directed staff to continue lease discussions and scheduled a work session to review town landscaping and access plans before committing to a long-term lease.
Separately, Councilmember Sandy Hunter reported Powder Mountain's interest in rezoning the Powder Landing property to recreational zoning; she said Powder Mountain proposed community benefits such as road or water assistance and event partnerships. The Council asked staff to pursue preliminary conversations and possibly a community-benefit agreement if rezoning proceeds.
"They were asking the Town to help with infrastructure," Councilmember Bruce Ahlstrom said after meeting with a sauna proponent, describing the type of conversation the Council will continue in a work session.
