Council replaces park dumpsters with standard trash cans to curb dumping

The Huntsville Town Council voted to replace the park's large dumpsters with regular trash cans after Town Maintenance Supervisor Blaine Vernon reported repeated household trash, yard waste and cardboard being dumped in the park containers. Vernon said the change is intended to reduce dumping by non-residents and cut the town's disposal fees.
"We could use the dumpster at the Maintenance Shed" for overflow and town maintenance needs, Vernon said; he added that crews would monitor cans and set out more containers for larger events. TCM Lewis Johnson moved to replace the park dumpsters with regular cans and TCM Artie Powell seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Councilmembers asked staff to ensure that agreements with the Ogden Boat Club continue to be honored and that event waste needs be met; staff said they would set out additional cans for larger gatherings.
