Council tables rewritten nuisance ordinance; appoints code enforcement officer

Huntsville's Town Clerk presented a recodified nuisance ordinance intended to move nuisance provisions into the town's Health & Safety chapter and to establish an administrative proceeding consistent with state law. The clerk introduced Chris Tremea, the staff nominee for Code Enforcement, who described his background and emphasized communication with homeowners as central to successful compliance.

Council members debated whether noise enforcement should remain in the nuisance code or be addressed in the land-use/zoning sections; TCM Sandy Hunter pressed for explicit noise language for each zoning district and TCM Bruce Ahlstrom requested more time to review state-code references. The Council voted to table the proposed ordinance for further review. Separately, the Council voted to confirm the appointment of Chris Tremea as Code Enforcement Officer. "Communication with homeowners was a key component to successfully getting a homeowner to comply," Tremea told the Council when introduced.

Council members said they want clearer cross-references between nuisance language and zoning provisions (especially noise curfews) before adopting the revised ordinance, and the appointment gives the town an on-the-ground officer to pursue a more community-oriented enforcement approach.
