Board sets timeline and assignments for Portrait of a Graduate and strategic plan

Board members discussed board development and strategic planning as part of ongoing training. The Board agreed to re‑read Chapter 1 of The Governance Core 2.0, complete assigned modules, and have each member review a policy to report back to Superintendent Greg Thornock prior to the April meeting. Members decided to draft the Portrait of a Graduate and a Strategic Plan themselves, using the Utah School Boards Association (USBA) model and staff assistance.
Member Ryan Despain suggested using artificial intelligence to assist in drafting materials. President Jeana Rowley and Member Despain were asked to bring a timeline with an end date to the next meeting. Board members also agreed to have five possible mission statements ready for review at the April meeting to be refined with staff input.
