Superintendent says PTO dissolved, highlights grants and policy work including kitchen remodel deadline

Superintendent Greg Thornock told the board that the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has dissolved and that community members are working to create a new PTO; he emphasized that “the district does not oversee or manage the PTO.” He also said he has been participating in capital expenditure planning and applying for outdoor teaching grants.
Thornock reported he has been attending state legislative sessions and that Central Utah Educational Services has a new executive director, Andy Peterson, who will be visiting districts the service. On a grant timetable, Thornock said the West Desert High School kitchen remodel must be completed by June 30, 2026 to meet grant requirements. He also said district staff are reviewing and improving leave policy for classified employees, and he requested board support to develop a policy guiding administrators on accepting or denying out-of-district behavioral students; Thornock said he is working with legal counsel on that language.
