Rockport plans elementary literacy and math acceleration specialists to support lowest 20%

District instructional staff presented the RES acceleration support model aimed at closing gaps for the lowest‑performing 20% of elementary students. The model restores a math specialist role alongside an interventionist and proposes adding two literacy acceleration specialists and two math acceleration specialists at the elementary to expand coverage across K–5.
Staff explained the operational constraints: Title I rules require K–2 priorities for some services which affects scheduling, and the new roles may be posted outside Title I depending on hiring and assignment decisions. The program aims to round out acceleration supports districtwide so students who require additional help receive consistent interventions across grade spans.
