The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County DUI Task Force voted to allocate $1,000 for March distributions of CHEERS! TO SOBER DRIVERS cards and to purchase $10 gift cards to a mix of local coffee establishments rather than gas cards.
Chair Morgan Smith summarized feedback collected from establishments, saying she retrieved completed forms from Barclay II, Jordis Cantina and Haufbrau and will re-stock locations that request supplies. Smith told the Task Force: "Morgan will purchase cards and get them distributed prior to St. Patrick's Day." Task Force members discussed that some locations distribute cards well while others struggle when staff are busy or when staff selectively hand them out.
Members debated alternative incentives to boost participation. Michelle Harrington, a member of the public, reported an establishment suggested using gift cards to venues other than Town Pump. Lauren Bolten moved to approve the $1,000 allocation and Marc Arment seconded; the motion passed.
The funds will be used to buy new cards and a mix of $10 gift cards for SheBrews, Coffee Corral/Backroads, BW Blacksmith, Copper Kiss and Brewed Awakenin. Task Force members also discussed adding signage (for example, restroom signs) and asking establishments how many cards or coasters they need before future distributions.
The Task Force recorded the distribution decision as a way to try to increase establishment participation ahead of the March holiday period.
