Shenandoah County board adopts mission, vision and core values at retreat

At the retreat the board worked from draft language provided by facilitator Dr. Stephanie Davis and edited a mission statement, vision statement and a set of core values. The adopted mission reads in substance that Shenandoah County provides transparent, responsible and high-quality public services that ensure safety, support sustainable growth and enhance quality of life for residents and visitors. The board amended the draft vision to emphasize preservation of natural resources and rural heritage while supporting agriculture and responsible growth near towns.
The board narrowed values to a set of core principles the county will emphasize: excellence, integrity, accountability, transparency, stewardship and collaboration. Dr. Davis said the retreat would produce a one- to two-year work plan with specific action items that flow from those statements and the county’s recently adopted 2045 Comprehensive Plan, which lists about 150 actions and strategies the county may prioritize over the coming years.
