County Administrator Evan Vass told the board that several items will be formalized on Feb. 24 as likely drivers of the FY27 budget. He identified the county’s expected share of SAFER-funded positions — 25% of the cost for 27 new firefighter positions — plus potential new position requests such as a communications manager and a locally funded accreditation position for the Sheriff’s Office.
Vass also noted a projected 3% compensation increase for staff and anticipated increases in health insurance costs. He said upcoming debt service on the $5 million issued in FY26 would also influence the FY27 budget. These items will be reflected in the formal budget materials the county prepares for the board and public review.
