At the Oct. 16 meeting the Salem Township Board of Supervisors approved two community donations: a $35,000 contribution to Slickville Volunteer Fire Department to help purchase a generator (the department also received a $10,000 grant toward the same purchase), and a $1,000 donation to the Westmoreland County Food Bank.
Supervisor Kerry Jobe said the generator purchase will help complete a Hazard Mitigation checklist and provide a warming/cooling station when the power is out. A resident asked whether Forbes Road VFD received assistance; Jobe replied that the township previously donated $60,000 to Forbes Road VFD to help pay off a truck. Both donation motions passed unanimously.
