Salem supervisors fund feasibility study work for Crabtree-area sewage expansion

Salem Township supervisors on Oct. 16 authorized an $8,515 transfer from the Special Projects account to the Sewage Revenue account to cover feasibility-study fees charged by Morris Knowles for a proposed Crabtree-area sewer expansion.
Kerry Jobe, speaking during the meeting, said the feasibility study and accompanying PowerPoint presentation are nearly complete and that initial designs under consideration would serve Forbes Road, Coal Hollow, Crabtree and Hannastown, while Totteridge would not be tied in initially. Jobe said the plan calls for pumping flows to the 14 Mile Run interceptor, which the board noted is currently operating at roughly 30% capacity and that the new connections would add about 22% more flow to the system.
Residents asked about the timing of a public meeting and whether private funding options exist. Resident Ed Rebitch told the board that a group called Sustainability Partners could provide private investment that would be repaid through user fees and would not appear on the township’s balance sheet. The board did not adopt a public outreach schedule at the Oct. 16 meeting; Jobe said the study materials would be reviewed internally and discussed with Unity before being shared with the public.
The transfer motion was approved unanimously by Supervisors Bob Zundel, Ken Trumbetta and Kerry Jobe. The board directed that additional procedural steps — including any required public meeting scheduling and coordination with FTMSA/Unity — take place after internal review of the feasibility materials.
