Staff outlines vacancies, training and active development pipeline

City planning staff told the Design Review Commission that the city is recruiting for several key positions and plans training for new commissioners and councilors. Staff recommended Teresa Abke continue as commission secretary and said preliminary interviews have been held for a new community development director; a vacancy for the building official remains open and the city has brought in additional plan-review support.
Staff also gave the commission an overview of the development pipeline, saying, "we have over $400,000,000 worth of current development between the library expansion, maritime museum, the hospital, Yakima, and the Owens 2 project." The staff member also outlined DLCD training options for commissioners on January 13, January 14 and January 23, all at 6:00 p.m., which will be recorded and available by Zoom.
