Superintendent says CES asbestos testing found area clear; WRMS kitchen remodel and other projects underway
Summary
Superintendent Ingrid Colvard reported that pre-disturbance asbestos testing at Columbia Elementary School found no asbestos in the area disturbed during flooring repairs. She also updated the board on a WRMS kitchen remodel, technology upgrades, a WRMS library in progress and participation in an Aug. 12 Skamania Timber Tour.
During the Aug. 8 board meeting, Superintendent Ingrid Colvard told the board that district staff disturbed only one area at Columbia Elementary School while repairing flooring and that "asbestos testing was performed before the area was disturbed and it was found that the area did not contain any" asbestos. Colvard said she will provide additional information later in the meeting to address written complaints a community member had submitted to ESD 112 and the Southwest Washington Clean Air Agency alleging asbestos and criticizing district management.
Colvard also updated the board on multiple district projects: the White Salmon (WRMS) kitchen remodel is underway; staff in the PLCs at Work team will attend an institute in Spokane; districtwide technology upgrades (speakers, wiring and all-call) are being installed; and a library for WRMS is in progress. Colvard noted she will participate Aug. 12 in the Skamania Timber Tour with local school leaders and legislative representatives to discuss SRS funds advocacy and county collaboration.
