The task force reviewed several address‑level inquiries and funding classifications during its March 5 meeting. A Benton Harbor property at 232 Kensington Road showed interest in MEC service after nearby MEC line activity; MEC indicated the property is not covered by existing ROBIN grant funding and the Michigan Broadband Map lists it as served by Comcast, making it ineligible for BEAD funding. MEC said it would apply a standard installation fee if the owner signs up.
Commissioner Teri Freehling raised two residential inquiries for follow‑up. For 6084 Dune Path (Coloma, Hagar Township), Comcast indicated an extension to reach the home would cost approximately $2,000 because of a long drop and challenging terrain; the address is surrounded by Comcast service but listed as unfunded/unserved on the Michigan Broadband Map. For 3022 Walton Road (Buchanan / Niles Charter Township), Comcast will investigate further because the address is listed as served on the Michigan Broadband Map and therefore ineligible for BEAD funding.
County staff will continue to coordinate with ISPs to verify service status and funding eligibility for these addresses and to document options (installation fees, alternative funding, or inclusion in future grant rounds).
