The Select Board voted Oct. 15 to extend a daily $500 fine for short-term rental (STR) violations, with enforcement to begin Oct. 29, 2025 for properties not in compliance. STR Administrator Christie Boswell reported that 72 short-term rentals have registered with the town to date and that eight properties had paid fines for past non-compliance.
Board members discussed persistent trash issues related to short-term rentals and the role of Good Neighbor Guidelines and potential invoicing to property owners for trash disposal. Members also noted the difficulty of a fixed "dusk to dawn" noise standard because the hours change with daylight-saving shifts. The board approved the extension to preserve the $500 daily fine measure while staff develop the protocol and logistics for issuing fines.
