Winhall approves two contractor payments totaling $486,430.50 for road projects

The Winhall Select Board voted unanimously Oct. 1 to approve two payments to Hunter Excavating for ongoing highway work: $261,205.50 for French Hollow culvert work (including a culvert upcharge and bond) and $225,225.00 for work on Stratton Access Road. Chair Stuart Coleman presented the invoices and the Board approved payment on motions recorded during the meeting.
Roads superintendent Trevor Dryden told the Board the French Hollow project still requires work to meet State specifications and that guardrails remain to be installed. He further reported that Josh Carvajal, a State Stream Alteration Permit Specialist, has been visiting sites more frequently and finding issues with completed work, prompting discussion of hydraulic studies and starting next year's bid process earlier.
