Stevenson-Carson board approves first reading of multiple policies, flags missing community-service policy

On Sept. 26, 2024, the Stevenson-Carson School District Board of Directors approved the first reading of a package of policy updates including WSSDA-recommended policies 2337, 2340, 2406–2414, 2418, 2420, 2421, 3112 and student-discipline policy 3241 and its related forms.
“In adopting WSSDA’s recommendations to policy 3241, the district will be able to do what is best for kids,” Superintendent Ingrid Colvard said during the meeting, summarizing the district’s rationale for several updates. Colvard told the board that the district is currently out of compliance because it has not adopted a required community-service policy (policy 2414) and recommended suspending several local policies that duplicate WSSDA language.
Board members unanimously carried a motion to approve the first readings after a short discussion that included review of WSSDA model language and a five-minute recess. Jon Paul Anderson moved to approve the first readings; Lisa Birney seconded the motion.
