Councilors asked whether officers had inquired about immigration status; the chief said NPD did not ask and followed standard booking procedures including fingerprinting, which leads to information shared via state and federal information networks. Solicitor Ali Giuliani said if federal law enforcement takes custody of someone under federal authority, the city cannot prevent transfers to other facilities or locations; the law department has posted detention and legal resources on the city's website to help families quickly find counsel.
Committee members asked the administration to investigate any credible allegations of local officer misconduct and to return with clarifications on clerk-office procedures and interagency communications.
