Short-term rental administrator reports registrations rising; board flags safety and ordinance amendments

The Selectboard heard an update from the town's short-term rental (STR) administrator, who reported that the GovoS registration platform is functioning and that two full registration applications have been completed, with additional applications in the pipeline. She said many routine questions arrive daily, covering fire extinguishers, self-certification, homeowner insurance and other safety concerns.

The administrator indicated she would not need to visit every STR in person, in many cases being able to complete reviews virtually, but that some parts of the STR Ordinance will require amendment to address implementation and safety issues. The Town Treasurer has received STR registration fees and the Town Administrator oversees STR operations. The board noted fire and safety concerns as paramount and signaled interest in clarifying inspection and compliance procedures.

Next steps: The administrator will continue processing registrations and the Selectboard expects proposed ordinance amendments and clearer enforcement procedures to come forward for review.
