Board approves 2023–24 budget extension to cover additional staffing

The Stevenson-Carson School District Board voted to approve Resolution 23-24/12 on Aug. 22, formally extending the 2023–24 General Fund budget after staff identified new staffing costs that exceeded the originally appropriated amounts. Kathy McKee told the board the additions included an extra third-grade teacher, additional paraprofessionals and a behavior specialist; some of those positions were funded in part by SRS monies, but the district exceeded appropriations and therefore required a budget extension.
Chair Jeff Wickersham opened the budget extension hearing at 5:50 p.m.; with no public comment the hearing closed at 5:51 p.m. The motion to approve the resolution was moved by Jon Paul Anderson and seconded by Lisa Birney. The roll-call vote recorded Anderson, Birney, Wickersham and Mitch Engel as voting "aye," and the resolution carried (4–0). No dollar amount for the extension was specified in the minutes; staff will record the formal appropriation adjustments in district accounting records.
