The council voted to amend Ordinance 2007-01 governing beach bonfires. The amendment requires all beach fires to be contained within designated fire rings, eliminates the previous $100 refundable deposit, and establishes a $25 permit fee for all beach fires. The motion to amend the ordinance was moved by Tim McCarthy, seconded by Mike Botelho, and approved by the council without objection.
Council members said the change formalizes the village’s requirement that bonfires be contained to improve safety and to standardize permitting and fees. The minutes record that the new fire rings have already been purchased and will be anchored in place on village beaches.
