Stop 43 on Michiana beach closed again over vandalism; EGLE issued notice on nearby structure

Council members said Stop 43 on the Village beach has been closed again following repeated vandalism of the safety rails and related safety concerns.
"The site will remain closed until safety concerns are addressed," Council President Tim McCarthy said. The beach report noted ongoing enforcement actions for items left on the beach, with several confiscations that have led to fines; councilors said non‑residents, particularly from Michiana Shores, have often been responsible for violations.
A separate item in the beach report said EGLE (Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy) was preparing to send a second notice about a structure between Stop 41.5 and 42. Linda Hirsch later asked during public comment how long a Lakeshore Drive sign about dune destruction would remain; Council replied the sign would stay up while the investigation continues.
Council took no additional formal enforcement action at the Sept. 5 meeting beyond continued closure of Stop 43 and ongoing enforcement activity.
