Police Chief Ryan Layman reported 38 calls in November, one warrant arrest and one traffic accident, and announced departmental personnel changes at the Dec. 12 council meeting.
Chief Layman introduced Tyler Skopec as a prospective new officer and proposed hiring him immediately as a seasonal employee working approximately 30 hours per week to train with Officer Brewster (Creo) until he starts at the police academy at the end of March. The chief said Skopec will become a full-time officer on the force after completing the academy. The council agreed to classify him as a seasonal employee while in training and voted unanimously to accept the contractual agreement; Tim McCarthy made the motion and all council members voted aye.
The council also noted the promotion of Officer Brewster (Creo) to sergeant; Brewster will serve as training officer for the department.
