Michiana finalizing water improvement proposal; master meter repairs underway

"Goal is completion by year‑end to minimize disruption," Mike Mumper said, describing the project timetable. He also reported a master meter failure; temporary measures are in place and Michigan City is assisting to ensure full water metering for Grand Beach and Michiana while repairs are completed.
Public Works Superintendent Rick Reitz separately noted that cross‑connection inspections are required by Michigan law to prevent water‑system contamination; the program has been slowed by contractor shortages and residents will receive notices and rescheduling options if needed.
No final contract or start date was given at the Sept. 5 meeting; Council heard that State/EPA review is expected and that staff will update the Council as approvals and timelines are finalized.
