Michiana council approves $10,000 two-tier hiring incentive for officers

Council formally approved the incentive on a roll-call vote. "Proposed a two-tier police officer hiring incentive: $5,000 bonus after one year of service, and $5,000 after two years, for Michiana," Chief Ryan Layman reported to the council. The motion carried 5 yeas, 0 nays. The council did not attach additional conditions to the incentive in the recorded motion. The chief also thanked Officers Creo Brewster and Heather Crooks "for covering overtime while short-staffed," a staffing context members cited when supporting the incentive.
