Commissioners approve purchase to replace aging Pure Storage drives before buyback deadline

He said the existing drives are approximately ten years old and nearing the end of supported life; the manufacturer is discontinuing its drive buyback program at the end of July and completing the purchase before that deadline would allow the County to receive a substantial credit for the existing drives.
Clever said the replacement had been included in the IT capital budget but the cost had increased by approximately $3,000 since the budget was prepared and the department could absorb the difference. Commissioner Martin moved to approve the Xiologix Pure Storage NVMe-Now purchase; Commissioner Smith seconded and the motion carried 2-0 (Commissioner Richardson absent). Clever estimated the updated drives could remain in service for another ten to fifteen years.
